KANKREJ GAIA _GOMATA Nandi (भारतीय गोवंश)-Series 5
Location : India Southeast of Rann of kutch, Mehsana, Kutchchh, Ahmedabad, Kheda, Anand , Sabarakantha, Banaskantha districts of Gujarat , Barmer, and Jodhpur districts of Rajasthan.
HISTORY and DESCRIPTION:
Divine Kankrej Gaia has the origin place in Gujarat and Rajasthan. They are popularly known as zebuine cattle in western countries.
In 1870 Kankrej Gaia were exported to Brazil, where they were used to create the Guzerat breed.The Guzerat was the most important breed in the formation of “American Brahman”. Between 1854 and 1926 this “American Brahman ” was the first Gaia (outside India) in United States which were produced by cross-breeding the Divine Gaia like Kankrej , Ongole, Gir and Krishna Valley Native Vedic breeds of India.
Unfortunately, this Divine Gaia “Brahman” is one of the most popular beef breeds intended for meat processing and is widely used in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, UnitedStates, Panama,Colombia and Australia among many other places.
This Indian-origin Divine Gaia “Brahman” is named after the Brahmins (Hindu priests), who themselves are named after the Hindu deity Brahma. Hindu Brahmins are vegetarians and consider divine Gaia as sacred holy. It is ironic that this divine Gaia breed named after the sacred Hindu icon has become the largest source of meat for meat-eaters.
