Basic Difference between स्वर & व्यञ्जन in Vedic samskritam.

Although I have written separate post on स्वर and व्यञ्जन in my previous post, however , I felt the need that to understand the Shiksha (which is the most important part of Vedic samskritam) logically then I need to highlight some very basic difference between स्वर and व्यञ्जन.

The basic difference स्वर & व्यञ्जन is that of अस्पृष्ट and स्पृष्ट

स्वर (Vowels) are अस्पृष्ट which means वायु without touching any place of pronunciation (उच्चारण स्थान) to produces the वर्ण (अक्षर)

व्यञ्जन (Vyanjan/ consonants) are स्पृष्ट which means वायु touches the place of pronunciation (उच्चारण स्थान) to produces the वर्ण (अक्षर)

Sound or more precise term is “ध्वनि” has a very important role in Vedas. Entire Shiksha is based on ध्वनि विज्ञान (science of sound) in humans. We have already seen how sound is manifested in humans (paste the link of uchaarna ka vjgan). In this post we will understand the difference between स्वर & व्यञ्जन from the view point of ध्वनि विज्ञान (science of sound) in humans.

In ध्वनि विज्ञान (science of sound) the flow of वायु has a very key role to play. let us understand this flow of वायु which makes the difference in उच्चारण (pronunciation) of स्वर वर्ण and व्यञ्जन वर्ण.

(Also refer to समाम्नाय (Samaamnaaya) bookmark for intoned vowels meaning . Intone means say or recite with little rise and fall of the pitch of the voice.)

(Also include atman and prana difference btw swar and vyajan)
